Mission Statement

The Association of Iranian Women Composers and Musicians (AIWCM) based in Toronto Canada is devoted to fulfilling the purposes of creativity and communication in music, traditional and contemporary music.

The AIWCM was created on January 20th, 2011 and registered with the Canadian not- for- profit incorporations on 16/02/2012 under Ontario and Federal Corporations Number 1866867 founded by Iranian-Canadian artist Asareh Shayegan (Sara Shahmohammadi).

The AIWCM is a coalition of professional composers, performers, musicologists, educators, librarians and lovers of music, men as well as women.

AIWCM encourages the activities of women in music through the following objectives:

• Establishing the history and role of women-musicians in the history of music of Iran .
• Collecting names of women who play and played vital role in the development of music culture in our country and publishing this material in a form of dictionary.
• Communicating nationally and internationally in the field of music.
• Establishing contacts with Iranian women-musicians in all over the world.
• Cooperating with other organizations and associations, local and international, involved in the activities that are related to those of AIWCM.
• Maintaining no political or religious affiliations.
• Communication languages: Persian and English
